July 18, 1979: Pirates’ Leaders as They Prepare for the Second Half

The Pirates have one more day off following the All-Star Game as they head home.  They’ll face Houston in a four-game series that starts with a Thursday doubleheader.  Atlanta follows with another four-game series, this one in just two days:  doubleheaders on both Sunday and Monday.  The Pirates are preparing for the long stretch of games by sending pinch running specialist Matt Alexander to AA Buffalo and calling up veteran right-hander Joe Coleman.
